
I joined the Honourable Stephen Lecce, Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines, for a productive meeting today with the Honourable Mark O. Cojuangco, Chairperson of the Special Committee on Nuclear Energy and Representative for Pangasinan’s 2ndDistrict, along with members of the Philippine delegation, to discuss opportunities for long-term cooperation in the development of nuclear energy.
The meeting focused on Ontario’s world-leading nuclear sector, the province’s ongoing nuclear expansion and refurbishment projects, and opportunities to share Ontario’s expertise with the Philippines as it advances its plans to introduce nuclear power into its energy mix.
Discussions explored areas of mutual interest, including CANDU technology, technical cooperation, workforce development, knowledge sharing, supply chain opportunities, and the potential for long-term collaboration between Ontario and the Philippines in support of safe, reliable, and clean nuclear energy.
The Philippine delegation also included Kristine Leilani R. Salle, Consul General of the Philippines in Toronto, along with senior officials from the Philippine House of Representatives and the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto.
