World Press Freedom Day 2026

May 13, 2026

It was my great pleasure to attend and extend warm greetings to the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada and gathered journalists on World Press Freedom Day 2026.

World Press Freedom Day stands as a powerful reminder of the essential role a free and independent press plays in safeguarding democracy, promoting transparency, and ensuring accountability.

It is also a moment to reflect on the responsibility shared by media professionals to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, and ethical journalism.

Having had the privilege of serving as a Board Member of the NEPMCC, I have witnessed firsthand the vital work they do in amplifying diverse voices and telling the stories that reflect the rich multicultural fabric of our society. Your commitment to inclusivity and representation continues to strengthen our communities and enrich public discourse.
